SMARKETS – 'not fit for purpose'

  • The new platform is an absolute disgrace.

    It sticks
    It freezes
It shows prices that aren’t there
It doesn’t shows prices that are there

I have sent them an email to express my disappointment with the ‘upgrade’.
I know others have spoken to them on the phone and they are just not bothered.
Seriously considering removing my custom from them and just suck up the extra 3% commission with bfex.

    Thoughts?
    Anyone else contacted them?

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

….and of course, the damn horse doesn’t place. £50 down the drain. Cheers smarkets ?

Laying on betfair doesn’t necessarily mean a restriction. They can tie the back, but hardly keep on top of their odds let alone who backs and lays

Smarkets really need to get their act together.. I use them, but they have to improve their service to stand a chance of longevity and to gain popularity. They aren’t doing anything particularly unique, as there are a number of other exchanges with lower rates than Betfair. They obviously have good liquidity compare to some others, but how long will that last if they encounter so many technical issues? Furthermore they are dropping by the ball by STILL not having a public API, or even a finished API.

Personally I doubt I’ll stop using them, but just as a company they need to do better for their own sake. I like their desktop UI – it feels simpler and fresher than Betfair for me (might be in a minority here), but Betfair’s is more fully featured so that only goes so far.

    Yet again smarkets falters!

I may be wrong but is the liquidity becoming worse on smarkets?

I don’t think it is overall, but I get the impression their liquidity is mostly reliant on a small number of traders. It can come and go so easily, and I have seen some markets where you’d expect some cash with virtually none

Given this forum is ‘in associate with smarkets’ and between us all we must make a decent wedge of cash for them it would be nice to see some representation and feedback from them

Don’t hold your breath. I have tweeted and contacted via email with no response from either.

All exchanges go down once in a while. Bookmakers do go down also from time to time, some more often than others. You need to have a back up in plan in cases where you can’t get bets down at such times. I keep a reserve bank in Betdaq for when this happens. I can’t use Betunfair any more because I have to pay the greedy buggers premium charge.

Not holding my breath on feedback, actually meant in general rather than just this issue. Something to show they’re actually in association with this page, rather than the main sponsor.

Using betfair for matched betting should long term help the premium charge as should offset other profits

am I the only one really liking smarkets then?

withdrawal super fast to bank (1-2 days)
their live football is great when “instant-match” is available (top-tiers), nice liquidity on those.
their football visualisation thingy is much faster than any bookie
i like the coupon view, so you can quickly check in-play prices across entire leagues.
oh wait, did we get to the 2% coms part?

btw. i only use the desktop version. and i always lay first, then backing..

I used Betfair for years until I started matched betting and at first I was a little cautious of Smarkets as it doesn’t look as sleek and they’re not as well known.

I’ve had absolutely no issues with it though. I’ve used the mobile site, app and desktop site and everything has been fine. Liquidity is better than I thought it would be too.

If both Betfair and Smarkets charged the same commission I’d probably stick with Betfair (mostly for aesthetic and navigation reasons) but at 2% it’s a no brainer.
