Betfair Each Way edge

  • So I just noticed this gizmo.

On betfair when you are placing an each way bet you can adjust the terms if you want.

For example I can bet on Top Tug in Catterick 14:20 today odds 3.25. Standard place terms are 1/5 odds, 3 places.

This is almost value as you’re getting odds 3.25/1.45 for the win/place(3) on the bookie and the lays are at 3.7/1.27 on the exchange.

    BUT

If I toggle the Each Way Edge widget to only pay two places then this will increase the odds to 4.33! Giving 4.33/1.67 for the win/place(2), where the lays are 3.7/1.59 (2 to place). Which is better value.

Maybe its something someone wants to look into, but at least at first glance on this example looks like you can stretch the value you get e/w arbing by using the edge.

    Anyone use this feature regularly?

Don’t understand the court theories, hardly anything illegal or underhand. I assume they have t&c about guaranteeing profit, but that’s standard.
It’s also called each way edge so doubt they’ll punish ppl for using it. Just sounds like some of their pricing isn’t as sharp as it needs to be, which would be more obvious from their results than reading forums.

Looks like price wise gave about 2/3 of the value to today’s, but the edge added to that and shifted the value from 1st to 2nd which worked out well.
Is there a method to spotting these outside of them enhancing the price wise tips?

Well I did one bet using ew edge today and I’ve been punished. Serious stake restrictions on a gubbed but non stake restricted account. Its no coincidence that an account I have been able to go big on stakes for ew arbs for months has been restricted today after one ew edge bet.

Went to place a £25 each way bet on a horse running tomorrow in a bad ew race. His price is 26 and I can only get £10 each way.

I can get 35 ew on either of those horses @ 26.0.

As opposed to 3.5K on the fav in the same race and about 150 ew on some of the horses in fairy house tomorrow on the big handicap.

I’m not sure what level of restriction before today and the ew edge bets. But nothing I’ve noticed before.

It could just be normal restrictions at this time of day i.e I’ve often found bookies wont take bets or will heavily restrict stakes if I try to get on something before 9am the next day. However, Betfair have been one of the few bookies when I can get whatever I want on at anytime of day or night.

I just went to my Paddy account too and have similar restrictions which were not there earlier today. This could either be because of the theory above (hopefully) or because they are now a merged company (more likely).

This wont really hurt me as I can spread stakes across several bookies if they offer same odds and I also have other accounts with both.

    Big Chip and Pin?
    My max bet is £9..

That is a fantastically bad ew race though..thanks for pointing it out!

I can understand someone not sharing their knowledge if it’s going to take away their edge but trying to get a thread removed just seems dumb to me…. It also just highlights that this is clearly something interesting to try…

Big Chip and Pin is a good one. He came third in a bad ew race where I got 101 on him. The one time I didnt underlay though so I took £60 instead of £250. Anyway, I really have to get on him again tomorrow.

There’s should be good value on the Irish grand national tomorrow. Lay odds are already coming together.

How does non runners affect things? I’ve got 6 horses so far in the Irish National. Will it just even itself out because I backed and layed before there were non runners?
