Betfair Each Way edge

  • So I just noticed this gizmo.

On betfair when you are placing an each way bet you can adjust the terms if you want.

For example I can bet on Top Tug in Catterick 14:20 today odds 3.25. Standard place terms are 1/5 odds, 3 places.

This is almost value as you’re getting odds 3.25/1.45 for the win/place(3) on the bookie and the lays are at 3.7/1.27 on the exchange.

    BUT

If I toggle the Each Way Edge widget to only pay two places then this will increase the odds to 4.33! Giving 4.33/1.67 for the win/place(2), where the lays are 3.7/1.59 (2 to place). Which is better value.

Maybe its something someone wants to look into, but at least at first glance on this example looks like you can stretch the value you get e/w arbing by using the edge.

    Anyone use this feature regularly?

Yeah I got on at 34/34 (plus the enhanced Edge odds of course)

Decent enough with Eway arbs on 3rd and 4th. Alvarado was on 5 places though so that could been a real bumper pay day

It was nice of Betfair SB to make their odds on Vicente so terrible that I didn’t even get close to betting on him.

I didn’t win as much as you Chris, Cogry was down to 26 (normal price) when I bet on him.

15.40 Punchestown – fair few horses have been worth looking at in the last 20 mins or so. Odds have shifted now but worth looking at if you’re free!

    Shamiran for example – 46.0/26.0

I’ve ended up building a small app getting all the races and runners in (save me shifting through each event at betfair), and then I’ve implemented smarkets odds – anyone know how to get betfair odds (I know their api is only for the exchange).

You could get them off oddschecker I guess and estimate the edge, seems to be predictable enough 8 maps to 12 etc. Or right a bot to crawl their website. But if they detect you’re placing bets with a bot then you will be out!

How did you get the smarkets odds?

Ill scrape it using php then, they don’t seem to change as often compared to the exchange – so maybe ill just scrape odds every 15mins. I don’t use it to place my bets, just to get a high level view (even just to see what handicaps have 16 runners its useful). I guess like you say to just estimate it is good enough

I used the markets API to get their odds, there is only a 15 second delay.

Its such a pain monitoring betfair ands markets at the same time, it makes things easier having it in one window and can easily switch races (for me anyway)

Hi, this is my first post on his forum so please go easy on me haha.
I came from another forum where a post was made about this topic and unfortunately it was locked down and disappeared very quickly for whatever reason. Since then I have been trying to go over what I remembered of the post but still feel as though something is missing from it.
So here is what I have been doing,
    Example:
Horse 1 odds 10/10.5, eachway edge -2 odds 16, £10 each way, potential winnings 207.40, so then I have been deviding the potential winnings by the lay odds 207.40/10.5= 19.75 and using this calculation to lay the win. Is this correct for this “loophole”? Or am I missing something, I really look forward to any replies as this has been driving me mad for weeks now

Yes you are on the right lines, just not factoring in commission. Although only alters the lay by pennies in this case.

Divide your betfair returns by your stake.

207.50/20 gives you 10.375. Use that as the effective odds you are getting to run through the calculator as you would with any other bet.

    Stake 20
    Back odds 10.375
    Lay odds 10.5
    Commission 2%

    Gives you lay of £19.80

    60p loss either way.

Thanks very much for that. I have been running through it over and over again and making it more complicated than it is. How many horses per race would you consider to be a safe amount to cover?

I cover 5 horses per race at low stakes, but the restrictions are closing in. My max with betfair is now only a couple hundred where before I think they didn’t care if I put a couple thousand on. I hear ppl going straight in with big stakes are getting restricted heavily almost immediately.

Trying small stakes but covering many horses is the way I went. Seems to have lasted a while but nobody knows the answers.

Cheers Fog, Haha your idea of small stakes are huge compared to mine then if you are dealing in hundreds :) I am only doing 20-30 eachway stakes until I build a bigger bank. I’m going to give it a proper go on the punchestown 16.20 today, managed to get on a couple of horses already and I’m hoping as it draws closer I will get on a couple more, will let you guys know how I get on

Oh no. I’m not puttin 100’s on. I just mentioned that to give an idea of how they are starting to restrict me. Even though I’m staking tiny stakes.

I went really low with this offer trying to stay under the radar. A couple quid ew. Still adds up to maybe £20 total stake on each race, so the profits tick up slowly.

Ok I have just stumbled on a problem. The 16.20 punchestown now has a non runner and now when I go to put another horse on it says that the standard each way is 3 places instead of the 4 places which it was earlier. This now doesn’t make it very profitable to put on more horses on it but what does this mean for the 2 horses that I already have on the race?
